Taiyang disease

    1. Taiyang disease is characterized by a floating pulse, headache, stiff nape and chills.

    2. Taiyang disease which manifests symptoms of fever, sweating, sensitivity to wind,
        and a moderate pulse is called Wind-disease (Chungfeng).

    3. Taiyang disease which, with or without fever, inevitably manifests symptoms of  chills,
        body aches, nausea, and a tense pulse at both superficial and deep positions, is called
        Cold-disease (Shanhan).

    4. A patient with Wind-disease of Taiyang has a floating pulse at the superficial position and
        a weak pulse at the deep position, chills, sensitivity to wind, fever, sneezing and dry vomiting.

   7. A patient with Taiyang disease, after being treated with the purgative method, has Qi rising upward:

   8. Three days after contracting Taiyang disease, a patient who has already been treated by the diaphoretic
       method, purgative method, vomiting method or *warm acupuncture dose not get recovery. This means
       that  the state of Taiyang disease is broken and mixed up.

              *warm acupuncture ---- It is said to be an ancient diaphoretic method.

   9. A patient with Taiyang disease has been sweated by the diaphoretic method and his sweating dose not
       stop afterwards. He develops symptoms of aversion to wind, scanty urination, minor spasms in limbs, and
       difficulty in flexion and extension of limbs. Gui Zhi Jia Fu Zi Tang is to be prescribed.

  10. After been purged, a patient with Taiyang disease develops symptoms of a *running pulse and feeling of

  11. A patient has been suffering from Taiyang disease for eight to nine days. He feels chills and fever like
        malaria. The sensation of fever lasts longer than that of chills. He has no nausea. His bowel movement
        is normal. The sensation of chills and fever occurs two or three times a day, and his body is itchy
        because of no-sweating. Gui Zhi Ma Huang Ge Ban Tang could be prescribed.

  12. After taking Gui Zhi Tang, a patient with Taiyang disease gets uneasiness. Treat him acupuncture
        at GB20 and GV16, and then, give him again Gui Zhi Tang.  He would get recovery.

  13. After taking Gui Zhi Tang, a patient sweats a lot and his pulse gets flooding and big. Give him again

  17.A patient with Cold-disease had a floating pulse,  sweating, a frequent urination,
       uneasiness around the heart, slight chills and spasms of legs. But he was improperly treated with
     Gui Zhi Tang. And then, he develops symptoms of cold hands and feet, a dry throat, more uneasiness
       and vomiting. First, give him Gan Cao Gan Jian Tang (to restore Yang). Then, if his hand and feet
       turns warm, give him Shao Yao Gan Cao Tang (to stop spasms of legs). If he develops the
       disharmony of Stomach Qi and unreasonable utterance, give him a small amount of Tiao Wei Cheng
     Qi Tang. If the patient gets cold hands and feet after been sweated again and again by the
       diaphoretic  method, or by the burning needle, Si Ni Tang is to be prescribed.

  31. A patient is in transition from Taiyang disease to Yangming disease. When he contracted
        Taiyang disease, he was treated by the diaphoretic method and sweated improperly.
        Then, his condition has turned into Yangming disease, and has spontaneous sweating slightly
        without chills. In this case, the patient should be treated by the diaphoretic method and makes
        him sweat a little. If his face is red, which is caused by suppressed Yang Qi, and he has short
        of breath, can not lie down but can only sit up , he should be treated by the diaphoretic method again.

  32. A patient with Cold-disease has a floating, tense pulse and has not been treated by
        the diaphoretic method. So, he gets nosebleed. Ma Huang Tang is to prescribed.

        nausea and gets distention in the epigastrium, depression and a slight uneasiness,
        give him Da Chai Hu Tang to purge. And he would get recovery.

  59. Thirteen days after contracting Cold-disease, a patient dose not get recovery. He has feeling of
        distension in the chest and hypochondria and nausea, tidal fever in the evening and a slight diarrhea.
        First, Xiao Chai Hu Tang could be prescribed to expel exterior symptoms. And then,
       Chai Hu Jia Man Xiao Tang is to be prescribed.
        (Tidal fever is a sign of Excess even if a patient has diarrhea.)

  60. A patient still has Taiyang disease. He has the heat accumulated in the urinary bladder and gets manic behavior.
        If he has bloody stools, he would get recovery. If he still has exterior symptoms, do not treat his heat
       accumulation. His exterior symptoms should be treated first. And then, if he has stiff mass in the lower
      abdomen, Tao He Cheng Qi Tang could be prescribed in order for the blood to come out with stools.

  64. A patient was treated by the burnt needle method which caused sweating, and his needle site got
        cold invasion, becoming red and swollen. He would inevitably have palpitations below his navel
        and feel something ascend from below his navel to his chest, or to his throat. First, apply one unit
        of moxa on the needle site. And then, give him Gui Zhi Jia Gui Zhi Tang.

  65. A patient with *rebellious Fire was treated by the purgative method and burnt needle.

                          with the heat of moxa. He gets heavy sensation below the waist and Bi.

  66. More than ten days after contracting Taiyang disease, a patient feels discomfort in the epigastrium

        had sever vomiting and diarrhea. Give him Tiao Wei Cheng Qi Tang.

        with chills. He still has exterior symptoms. If mistakenly purged on this condition, he would get a slow
        pulse, pain and uneasiness in the chest, short of breath and distress. Exterior evil Qi moves inward which
        leads to hardness in the epigastrium and makes Congested Chest. Da Xian Xion Tang is to be prescribed.
